Product Description
"Words of Wisdom" series presents stories from the Old and New Testaments at a level that children can read for themselves. It contains bright and attractive pictures to help bring out the teaching of the Scriptures. The aim of the series is to make the Bible come alive to children so that they will become more interested in its message. Then they can see how valuable it is for their own lives.
"Words of Wisdom" series provides background information for each story for parents to read. There are also questions to think about, in the hope that the message of the stories will be remembered. At the back of each booklet is the Bible text for each story taken from the Good News Bible. These story books may be used as teaching materials in Sunday Schools as well as at home. They may also be used to share with friends who do not yet know about God's Good News.
When Jesus taught people he often used stories called 'parables.' "The Prodigal Son" is one of the parables he used.
This parable teaches us that if we truly are sorry when we do wrong, God will forgive us. It does not matter what kind of wrong we have done. God will accept us just like the father in the parable welcomed his son back.
In Jewish custom, when a father grew old, he could pass on to his sons their inheritance. In this story, the younger son asked for his inheritance, and the father gave it to him.
Jewish people thought that pigs were "unclean" animals. This meant that they could not eat pork. Anyone who kept pigs or fed them would also be "unclean."
